Summer is already here and the temperature is rising high each day. To beat the hot and dry weather of summer we devour on fresh juice, lemonades, and ice-creams. We also avoid going out during peak hours and stay indoors in our air-conditioned house. And if we need to step out in the sun, we protect ourselves by using UV protected sunglasses and clothing, hats, and Sunscreens. But this is not always possible and we end up our skin getting suntanned. Young kids with sensitive skin even get redness and skin rashes due to the harmful radiations from the sun. Most of us have the misconception that sunscreen will protect our self from the UV rays of the sun, but sunscreen will filter the UV rays and prevent sunburn. It will not prevent the production of Melanin so the skin will get tanned. We have got some home remedies to remove sun tan naturally.

Chickpea Flour and Turmeric: Chickpea or gram flour (besan) is great for removing the tan by cleansing and brightening the skin. It will also tighten the skin. The anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties of Turmeric will help reduce the inflammation and the scars caused by acne.

Things you’ll need:

2 Tbsp Chickpea Flour
2 Tbsp Milk/ Rose Water
½ Tsp Turmeric Powder

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl till you get a fine paste-like consistency. Apply this paste on your face and neck and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Wash it with lukewarm water. Try this face mask daily for few weeks to get clear and brighter skin. Moisturize your skin after you wash off the face pack. After few uses, you will notice that the suntan will start disappearing from your skin.

Lemon and Sugar: Lemon is a great source of Vitamin C and has anti-bacterial properties. Citric acid present in lemon acts a skin lightening agent and removes the dead skin by exfoliating the skin. Lemons, when combined with sugar, acts as a natural scrub which will help get rid of tanning in few weeks making your skin soft and bright.

Things you’ll need:

Juice of half lemon
½ cup granulated sugar

Mix lemon juice and sugar and apply this scrub on your tanned face, neck, or arms. Gently rub the scrub in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes. After, leave the scrub on your skin for about 5-10 minutes and rinse it off with cold water. Pat dry your skin and apply moisturizer to prevent from drying. This scrub, when applied daily, will remove all the dark spots and blemishes from your skin in just a couple of weeks.

Papaya and Honey: Papaya has skin lightening agents which will reduce the blemishes and clear the pigmentation. Papaya is also good for reducing dark circles and wrinkles. Regular use of papaya can remove sun tan and any visible scars from the skin. The active enzymes found in papaya are good for the exfoliation of the skin and when combined with honey will nourish, soften and moisturize the skin naturally.

Things you’ll need:

1 Tbsp Pureed or mashed papaya
1 Tsp Honey

Mix pureed papaya and honey in a bowl. Apply this mixture on to your face and neck and leave it for about 20-30 minutes. Rinse with cold water. Repeat this daily for a soft and brighter skin free of blemishes.

Fuller’s Earth (Multani Mitti) and Rose Water: Fuller’s earth is an excellent cleanser which will remove any dead cells, dirt and excess oil from the skin. Fuller’s earth, when applied to the skin, has cooling effects which will sooth the skin and reduce the inflammation caused by sunburn and acne.

2 Tbsp Fuller’s Earth (Multani Mitti)
2 Tbsp Rose Water

Mix equal quantity of fuller’s earth and rose water and apply to the face, neck, and arms. Leave the pack for 15-20 minutes until it dries. Wash it off with cold water and pat dry. Applying this face pack will refresh your dull looking skin. You can repeat this daily once and get clean, clear and soft glowing skin.

Red Lentils and Milk: Red lentils also known as Masoor Dal is a powerful suntan removing ingredient. And when it is combined with milk, the pack will help clean the blemishes and dead cells, giving you soft and clean skin.

Things you’ll need:

1 Tbsp Red Lentil Powder
1 Tbsp Milk

Mix both the ingredients to form a smooth paste. Apply this paste on your face and let it stay for around 30 minutes. Wash it off with cold water and pat dry. You can use this pack 3-4 times a week.

Potato and Lemon: Potatoes are loaded with fibers, minerals, and vitamins. Potato is very effective in removing sun tan and blemishes which are often caused due to aging. Lemon’s acidic property cleanses the skin by removing dead skin. You can also add honey to this pack.

1 medium Potato
1 Tbsp Lemon juice

Make a paste of potato by grinding in a blender and add lemon juice to it. Mix it well and apply on your face and neck. Leave the pack for about 20-25 minutes. Wash it off with cold water. You can use this simple and easy remedy daily until your tan fades away.

Yogurt: Yogurt is a probiotic which is not only good for digestion but it’s also good for the skin. It naturally moisturizes the skin and minimizes the suntan. It also cools the skin as well as reduces the redness and levels the skin tone.

Things you’ll need:

1 Tbsp Plain Yogurt

Apply yogurt on the affected skin and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Do not rub vigorously just apply gently all over the skin. Wash it off with warm water and pat dry. You can do this daily before a shower to get beautiful and tan free skin.
