2 minutes, 39 seconds Read

Sheera is a traditional sweet prepared at every Indian home on festivals, special occasions, and just to express happiness for any new beginning. It is considered auspicious to cook this dessert as a first meal cooked by the bride after her marriage. According to traditions, it is highly considered as good luck to cook sheera on birthdays and is believed that it brings good health and prosperity. This sheera is made with very few ingredients, and takes hardly any time to cook. Over the time, many rich desserts have made place in everyone’s heart, but this simple yet delicious dessert is still everyone’s favorite. I have tried to give sheera a modern look by covering it with chocolate ganache. So let’s check out the recipe of Chocolate Ganache Covered Sheera and see how quick and easy this is.

Ingredients:

For Sheera:

1 Cup Sooji (Semolina)

¾ Cup Sugar

1 Cup Milk

1 Cup Water

½ Cup Ghee (Clarified Butter)

½ Tsp Cardamom Powder

Nuts to garnish

For Chocolate Ganache:

1 Cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips

2/3 Cup Heavy Cream

Method:

  1. Heat a thick bottomed wide pan and pour ghee in it.
  2. Add sooji in the pan and roast it at low heat till it changes color. Stir occasionally to prevent sooji from sticking to the pan and even cooking.
  3. Sooji will take around 8-10 minutes to roast, so meanwhile, mix together water and milk in a pan and bring it to boil.
  4. Once sooji is roasted, you’ll get a nice and sweet aroma, and then slowly add hot water and milk to the sooji and keep stirring to avoid any lumps. You can adjust the water by adding few more spoons of water if the mixture is too stiff to stir.
  5. Let the sooji cook on slow flame for about 5-6 minutes so water and milk is nicely incorporated in the sooji.
  6. When there is no water left and sooji is cooked, add sugar in it and mix properly.
  7. Once the sugar melts and incorporates in the sooji, switch off the heat and sprinkle cardamom powder and mix gently.
  8. Transfer the sheera into individual bowls or a greased serving tray by evenly filling the sheera and levelling it with a flat spatula. Let it cool.
  9. To make chocolate ganache, take a microwave safe bowl and add chocolate chips and heavy cream to it.
  10. Heat for high for 1 minute. Whisk until the chocolate chips are combined with the cream.
  11. The mixture will look smooth and thin; keep stirring to thicken the ganache. Let it cool slightly.
  12. Now unmold the sheera bowls in a plate and pour the chocolate ganache over it. If you are serving in a tray, spread the ganache evenly over the sheera. Refrigerate the chocolate ganache covered sheera for at least 30 minutes and allow it to set.
  13. Instead of the Chocolate Ganache, you can also use any Chocolate Syrup.
  14. Once the Sheera is set in the tray, cut into squares for easy serving.
  15. Garnish the Chocolate Ganache covered Sheera with nuts, cherries, sprinkles, or your desired topping.

Do try this traditional Indian dessert with a modern twist. I am sure children as well as grown-ups will drool over this delicious dessert.
