Her first cookbook, Easy Exotic, a compilation of international recipes and short essays, was awarded Best First Book at the 1999 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards at Versailles. She has been the host of the US reality television program Top Chef since season two in 2006, for which she received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program. Lakshmi is a co-founder of The Endometriosis Foundation of America, a nonprofit organization which focuses on increasing awareness, education, research, and legislative advocacy against the disease. She is a global ambassador for Keep a Child Alive, and since 2007 has traveled to KCA sites in India on their behalf. She is also a strong advocate of women’s rights. Akshay Kumar: Akshay Kumar born on September 9, 1967, is an Indian actor, producer, and Martial artist. He began his acting career in 1990, and since then he has never looked back. He has acted in over a hundred Hindi films and won several awards including the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Rustom and two Filmfare Awards. Initially he acted in action films only, but later he was praised for his drama, romantic, and comic roles. Lata Mangeshkar: Lata Mangeshkar, born 28th September 1929, is an Indian playback singer and occasional music composer. She is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India. Lata Ji’s voice is very sweet and melodious. At a very young age of thirteen in 1942 she started her career after her father’s death, which has spanned over seven decades. She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Marathi and Hindi. She has sung more than 50000 songs. She was recipient of three National Film Awards, 12 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards and many more. She was honored with The Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989 by the Government of India. She is also the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2001, India’s highest civilian honor.
