Gujarati Chivda

Gujarati Chivda is an all time favourite snack that you can enjoy with your tea or coffee anytime. This easy snack recipe is an authentic and traditional Gujarati recipe made with less oil. It is also made during Diwali as a savoury snack. You can enjoy this healthy snack recipe on an empty stomach and carry it easily on your holidays too!

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Thin Rice Poha(Flattened Rice)
  • 1/4 Tsp. Mustard Seeds
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 Handful Curry Leaves
  • 1 Whole Dried Red Chili
  • 1/4 Tsp. Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Tbsp. Oil
  • 2 Tbsp. Cashews
  • 2 Tbsp. Raisins
  • 2 Tbsp. Peanuts
  • 1 Tbsp. Sliced Dry Coconut
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 1 Tsp. sugar
  • Salt as per taste

Method

Step 1

Roast the poha and peanuts in a non-stick pan and make them crisp.

Step 2

In an another pan, heat oil and add the mustard seeds and let them crackle. Add asafoetida, red chilli, green chillies, curry leaves, sliced coconut, cashews and saute.

Step 3

To it add turmeric powder. Give it a gentle stir. Add the roasted poha and peanuts to the pan and mix it well.

Step 4

Now, add salt and mix well the chivda. Keep it on very low flame for about 1-2 mins stirring occasionally so the poha gets it’s flavor from the tampering and gets crunchy.

Step 5

Once it cools add sugar and raisins and give it a gentle stir. To keep it fresh store it in an air tight container.

Serve this Gujarati Chivda with Masala Chai or Coffee.
