Sabyasachi Mukherjee – A Renowned Fashion Designer

Sabyasachi is one of the renowned name in the Indian Fashion Industry. His collection among Saree’s, Lehenga’s, Anarkali’s, western gowns as well as Bridal outfits is customer’s first choice. He has tremendous bridal collection where we can see the touch of traditional as well as modern designs which are creatively presented to give a glamorous look. He fusions different styles, uses unusual fabrics and textures, and uses vibrant colors in his collections. Cultural traditions of his home town Kolkata has been an inspiration for him.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee was born in a middle class family of Kolkata in 1974. He had a keen desire to study at NIFT but his parents disagreed. But he didn’t give up, he sold his books and paid for the admission form and cleared his exams. In 1999, Sabyasachi graduated from National Institute of Fashion Technology India. And just after few months he initiated his career by opening a small workshop with just three people.

After winning the Femina British Council’s most outstanding young Designer of India award in 2001, he went to London with Georgina von Etzdorf for his internship. He returned with many more ideas and started retailing at all major stores in India. And with each passing year he brought creative innovations into the fashion world by extensive use of hand woven fabrics, hand block printing, embroideries, bandhani, bagru prints, and use of cotton fabrics.

Apart from women clothing, Sabyasachi has launched a line of jewelry, menswear collection featuring Kurtas and Sherwanis, and the headgear. He even launched a kid’s wear line named as Chota Sabhya. He is the only Indian designer to be invited to showcase at the Milan Fashion Week 2004. He even designed for Bollywood movies such as Black, Laaga Chunari Me Daag, Baabul, Gujaarish, Paa, No one killed Jessica, and English Vinglish.

Sabyasachi designed the entire trousseau collection of 18 hand crafted silk sarees for Vidya Balan’s wedding. It was none other than Sabyasachi, who designed the beautiful pink Lehenga worn by Anushka Sharma and an ivory silk Sherwani worn by Virat Kohli on their secret wedding in December 2017 in Italy. Like Anushka Sharma, Sabyasachi has designed for many Bollywood actresses like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sushmita Sen, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Rani Mukherji, Shabana Azmi, and Late Sridevi. Sabyasachi’s store is located in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Hyderabad. Some of its collection is also carried by other retailers in various parts of India, California, Atlanta, London, and Dubai. Whether it be Sabyasachi’s Bridal Collection, The Udaipur Collection, or the Spring Summer Collection, his designs, patterns and colors gives a rich and elegant look to all his dresses.
